NIGERIA HOSTS 2011 NOBEL PRIZE WINNER LEYMAH GBOWEE

African Women Development (AWDF), WIPSEN Africa, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Women in Management and Business (WIMBIZ), African Women and youth Development, supported by GOTNI, Thristle Praxis Consulting, African Women and Youth Organization (AWYO) and Centre for Women's health and Infomation collaborate in  “Recognizing African Excellence and Achievement” as they host the 2011 Nobel Prize Winner Leymah Gbowee in a 2-day event (2nd - 3rd December 2011)

ABOUT LEYMAH GBOWEE

Leymah Gbowee

Leymah Roberta Gbowee born Feb. 1, 1972 is a Liberian peace activist responsible for leading a women's peace movement that brought an end to the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003. This led to the election of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Liberia, the first African nation with a female president. 
She, along with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Tawakkul Karman, were awarded the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights to full participation in peace-building work.

Leymah Roberta Gbowee is the Executive Director of the Women, Peace and Security Network - Africa (WIPSEN-Africa). She was formerly the Coordinator for Women in Peacebuilding Network/ West African Network for Peacebuilding (WIPNET/WANEP) and has served as the Commissioner-designate for the Liberia Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Leymah has developed and facilitated workshops on Trauma Counseling, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding and demonstrates a lifelong commitment to social justice and sustainable development for community transformation.
